Scripture Reading – God’s Living Word - 1 Samuel 12:24-25, NLT

Samuel’s Farewell Address

At Saul’s Coronation – Last two verses

24 But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. 25 But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away.”

Food for Thought

God is sovereign and is always at work “behind the scenes”. First Samuel, perhaps more than any other book in the Bible, teaches that to effectively lead people we must humbly follow God.

Leadership for Samuel was a stewardship, a responsibility, and an honor. He demonstrated integrity because it was not his intention to demonstrate integrity. He was honest because his intention was not to be known as an honest man. He was fair and just because he wasn’t thinking about developing his reputation as an honest and just man. He was thinking about honoring God and serving God’s people. He wasn’t living to build a reputation. (The Leadership Bible, Leadership Principles from God’s Word)

Key Thought

Do Good to Please God

Jesus tells us “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven”. Matthew 6:1, NLT

May the reading of God’s Living Word open your heart in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
