God’s Living Word – 1 Corinthians 13:1-7, NLT

Love Is the Greatest

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Commentary – Love Never Fails – vs. 4-8

Apostle Paul wanted the Corinthians to know that all gifts would one day no longer be needed. But love would continue forever. Prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, knowledge will vanish away: These gifts will be unnecessary in the fullness of God’s Kingdom, but love is the nature of God and will continue forever.

Food for thought – Interpersonal Relationships

Apostle Paul exhorted or strongly urged the Corinthian believers to seek unity, not uniformity, among themselves. Uniformity occurs when people make a conscious effort to look alike, dress alike, talk alike and think alike. But unity involves harmony. It occurs when men and women share a common purpose and use their various talents to accomplish that purpose. (Notes from The Leadership Bible, NIV © 1998)

May the reading of God’s Living Word touch your heart in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
